Get ready to set off…

First off, let me preface this by stating that I am by no means a wine expert. Usually, I’m a beer guy, but when someone says cheap self-guided wine tour, I’m in! These are the wineries we visited, and the little bits I remember from them:

Queenstown Self-Guided Winery Tour

These are the wineries we visited in order:

Gibbston Valley Winery

queenstown self-guided wine tour

Probably the best-designed cellar door in this region. This winery has a feel of class. Our favorite tasting/pairing was the wine and chocolate board. Give it a go for sure!

Address: 1820 State Highway 6, Gibbston 9371
Hours: 10am – 5pm Daily
Website:https://www.gibbstonvalley.com/

Peregrine Wines

An incredibly modern tasting room, backed with a Rose that we loved. The tasting is free, so definitely don’t miss this one!

Address: 2127 Gibbston Hwy, RD1, Queenstown 9371
Hours: 11 am – 5 pm Daily
Website: www.peregrinewines.co.nz

Kinross Cottages

Okay, not really a vineyard, but they distribute for five vineyards around them. It’s a great place to sample a plethora of winemakers wines at one time!

Address: 2300 Gibbston Hwy, Queenstown 9371
Hours: Change seasonally, but they are at least open from 8 am – 6 pm daily

Waitiri Creek Wines

Set in an old church, this winery has a Chardonnay that we loved! Plus, the old church is a great setting to be drinking in.

Address: 2323 Church Ln. Gibbston Highway 9371
Hours: 11 am – 4 pm Daily

Mt. Rosa Wines

To be honest I was starting to get pretty buzzed at this point in time. The people working there are what made this tasting awesome! All great drinking wines and they had a heavy pour for only $10 for all their wines.

Address: 91 Gibbston Back Rd, Gibbston 9371
Hours: 11 am – 5 pm Daily

Brennan Wines

Eh… I don’t remember any of the wines really standing out, the girl pouring them was nice and informative though. We were also running out of time to make it to the rest of the vineyards before they closed. She poured them as quick as we could drink them!

Address: 86 Gibbston Back Rd, Gibbston, Queenstown 9317
Hours: 11 am – 5 pm Daily

Chard Farm Vineyard

They were closing when we got there. They poured we drank. I think all the wines were pretty tasty!

Address: 205 Chard Rd 1, Gibbston 9197
Hours: 10am – 5pm Daily
Website:http://www.chardfarm.co.nz/

Amisfield Bistro & Cellar Door

queenstown self-guided wine tour

This one I barely remember, but I’d visited them before. They make a really interesting Rose, and if you buy a bottle they deduct your tasting price from the price of the bottle.

Address: 10 Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Rd, Frankton, Queenstown 9371
Hours: Noon – 8 pm

The wine worked…

Pretty hammered and hungry, we headed to Smith’s Bar in town to smash a poutine, and wash down all the wine with a beer. We grabbed a Fergburger and headed to our friends’ apartment to drink all the bottles of wine we collected along the way. All-in-all a really great/overly intoxicated day out!
